La Laja Beach and Swimming Pools

La Laja is a fine, black-sand beach located at the southern entrance to the city, facing the open sea. A submerged breakwater prevents the waves from breaking on the shore and ensures calm conditions for swimmers; however, strong currents mean that extra caution is required when entering the sea.

The area features three natural swimming pools: a crescent-shaped children’s pool, a 50-metre pool adapted for regulated sports, and a family pool. A birdwatching viewpoint, shaded areas and sunbathing spaces complete the beach facilities. Facing east, the beach offers spectacular sunrises.

La Laja Beach can be reached on foot from the Avenida Marítima via a pedestrian walkway. When arriving by car from the south, visitors are welcomed by a sculpture of the god Triton, created by the sculptor Manolo González.

Of the old houses of La Laja, once located along the seaside road, only the Torre del Viento remains, bearing witness to its past as a summer retreat for families and a leisure area for residents of nearby neighbourhoods.
