Stars such as Shirley MacLaine, Jessica Lange, Brad Pitt, Marion Cotillard, Uma Thurman and Cliff Richard & The Shadows have filmed in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The city has also hosted the shooting of major Spanish productions, including Palmeras en la nieve, El Niño, Como un relámpago, La isla interior, Cien años de perdón, Que parezca un accidente, Las ovejas no pierden el tren, REC 4: Apocalipsis and the Canarian film Mararía.
In recent years, the capital of Gran Canaria has become a highly attractive location for major film and television productions. Iconic settings such as the Vegueta district, the Gabinete Literario and the surroundings of Las Canteras Beach have been transformed into film sets for national and international productions.
This close relationship with cinema has its roots in historic film shoots featuring major stars in the 1950s. In 1953, Moby Dick, directed by John Huston and starring Gregory Peck, was filmed here. And in 1954, Tirma, directed by Paolo Moffa, featured performances by Marcello Mastroianni and Silvana Pampanini.
Film lovers can explore the capital by following the footsteps of these productions. And every April, for more than a quarter of a century, the city has dressed up in cinema with the celebration of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria International Film Festival.
