Central Market

The Mercado Central, located in the Mesa y López commercial area, is one of the city’s main food markets. Its businesses are spread over two floors: the ground floor houses the traditional stalls, where fresh, locally sourced products can be purchased, along with a small shopping gallery, while a supermarket occupies the upper floor.

The market also features several venues where visitors can enjoy a coffee, churros, or even lunch or dinner within the market itself.

It was built in 1958 to serve the growing population of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, at a time when the city was undergoing significant urban development. The Mercado Central was conceived not only to supply the neighbourhood, but also as a distribution centre.

The structure of the building was designed by the Catalan architect Joan Margarit. Notable features include the entrance arch, the façade mural created by the Gran Canaria artist Pepe Dámaso, and the abundant natural light that fills the interior.

Main floor and shopping mall: Monday to Saturday, 08:00 to 14:00.
Top floor: Monday to Saturday, 09:00 to 21:30.
