Canarian wrestling

A traditional local sport with a strong following in the city is Canarian wrestling. Matches are fought in a circular sand ring, with wrestlers of different levels: participants use a complex variety of grips and techniques to try to eliminate members of the opposing team. Venues such as Terrero Camurrita, in the Complejo deportivo Vicente López Socas, host the different island and inter-island leagues and tournaments.
