Canarian Lateen Sailing

Canarian Lateen Sailing is a traditional local sport practised in the city’s bay since the early 20th century and forms part of the ethnographic heritage of Canarias (it was declared Asset of Cultural Interest in 2016). Competition among the boatmen who transported people and goods between ships and the port gave rise to this sport, whose regattas create a unique scene along the coastline of the capital of Gran Canaria between April and September.
