El Ayuntamiento de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria y el Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria promocionarán la ciudad como destino náutico de invierno, con la presentación del circuito de vela ‘Gran Canaria Sail in Winter Series’, en el ‘Trofeo Princesa Sofía Mapfre’, en la isla de Mallorca, en Baleares, la competición de vela olímpica más importante del país, que se celebrará del 30 de marzo al 6 de abril.
La expedición del Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria representará a la ciudad en este evento náutico internacional, y mantendrá encuentros con representantes de estos equipos olímpicos para captar su participación en las regatas de invierno de la capital grancanaria y promocionar la capital grancanaria como destino de entrenamiento del deporte de la vela en la temporada más fría del año.
El circuito de regatas ‘Gran Canaria Sail in Winter Series’ engloba cuatro de las competiciones que organiza el Club Náutico, con la colaboración del Ayuntamiento capitalino, entre los meses de diciembre y febrero, y que tienen rango internacional: la Semana Olímpica Canaria de Vela-Trofeo El Corte Inglés, del 5 al 8 de diciembre de 2013; la AECIO Trophy, del 26 al 29 de diciembre de 2013; el Trofeo Comodoro, del 10 al 13 de enero de 2014, y la Carnival Race -Regata Internacional de Carnaval, que se celebra del 22 al 24 de febrero de 2014.
La concejal de Ciudad de Mar, Mimi González, ha explicado que el 44º Trofeo Princesa Sofía Mapfre con la participación de 850 regatistas de clases olímpicas de 53 países, “es el primer punto de encuentro del año de los mejores equipos del momento y supone una oportunidad para mostrar a estas delegaciones internacionales las fortalezas náuticas de la Ciudad y sus inmejorables infraestructuras y condiciones meteorológicas para navegar y entrenar en invierno”.

The City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria (Royal Sailing Club of Gran Canaria) promote together the city as a winter sailing destination presenting the sailing circuit ‘Gran Canaria Sail in Winter Series’, at the ‘Trofeo Princesa Sofía Mapfre’, in the island of Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, the most important Olympic sailing competition in Spain, to be celebrated from the 30th of March to the 6th of April.
The expedition sent by the Real Club Náutico of Gran Canaria will represent the City in this international sailing event, and will also meet representatives of these Olympic teams to get their participation in the winter sailing races of the Grancanarian capital city, and to promote it as a sailing training destination on the coldest season of the year.
The regatta circuit “Gran Canaria Sail in Winter Series” involves four competitions organized by the RCNGC, with the collaboration of the City Council, between December and February and that has an international rank: The Canary Olympic Sailing Week- El Corte Inglés Trophy, from 5th until 8th December 2013; the AECIO Trophy, from the 26th to 29th December 2013; the Comodoro Trophy, from 10th to 13th January 2014; and the Carnival Race –International Carnival Race, to be celebrated from 22nd to 24th February 2014.
The Councillor of City of Sea, Mimi González, explained that the 44th Trophy Princess Sofía Mapfre, with 850 participating sailors of Olympic classes from 53 countries, “is the first meeting point of the year for the best teams on the moment and means an opportunity to show these international delegations the sailing strengths of the city and its unbeatable facilities and weather conditions to sail and training in winter”.
