Las Palmas de Gran Canaria será de nuevo este año el punto de partida de la regata transoceánica ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers), que en 2012 cumple su 27 edición como uno de los eventos náuticos de mayor repercusión a nivel internacional. Más de 200 embarcaciones de 25 de países han empezado a llegar al Muelle Deportivo de la ciudad para zarpar el próximo 25 de noviembre rumbo a la isla caribeña de Santa Lucía, una travesía de 2.700 millas náuticas que se ha convertido ya en una prueba de referencia dentro del circuito mundial.
La mayor parte de los regatistas proceden del Reino Unido, con alrededor de 80 embarcaciones inscritas en la prueba, en la que también habrá una amplia representación de barcos procedentes de Alemania, Italia, Noruega, Holanda o Rusia. Según los cálculos realizados por la organización de este evento, la presencia de la ARC en la isla de Gran Canaria genera unos ingresos cercanos a los 2,3 millones de euros, con un gasto medio por participante de 167 euros diarios.
El programa de actividades con motivo de esta regata arrancó ayer lunes 5 de noviembre con un Concurso Infantil de Pintura en el que participarán un total de 180 niños de diferentes colegios de la ciudad, que tendrán también la oportunidad de visitar las instalaciones del Muelle Deportivo y adentrarse en el mundo de los deportes náuticos mediante charlas informativas sobre Vela Latina, buceo y otras modalidades deportivas relacionadas con el mar. Para todos aquellos que deseen iniciarse en el mundo del submarinismo,hasta el viernes 9 de noviembre, entre las 16:00 y las 18:30 horas, la empresa Buceo Canarias realizará bautismos de buceo. Además, la noche del viernes 9 de noviembre, la Terraza La Sal del Muelle Deportivo acogerá una divertida Fiesta Marinera, abierta tanto a los regatistas como al público general para vivir el gran ambiente náutico que ya se respirará ese día en la Marina de la capital grancanaria.
Otra de las iniciativas de la asociación de empresarios Marina LPA será la Happy Hour, durante todo el mes de noviembre, y en horario de 12.00 a 13.00 horas y la propuesta La Brocheta del Mar, un aperitivo de pulpo, calamar, atún, gambas y cherne que se ofrecerá al precio de 2 euros junto a una consumición durante todos los fines de semana del mes.
Open day de Vela Latina Canaria
El domingo 18 de noviembre, una semana antes de la salida de la regata, se celebrará en el Puerto Deportivo la ceremonia de apertura e izada de banderas, uno de los actos más coloridos y multitunarios. Ese día, todos lo que se acerquen al Muelle deportivo podrán disfrutar de una jornada de puertas abiertas de Vela Latina Canaria que incluirá exhibición de botes, muestras de artes tradicionales y bautismos en este deporte vernáculo.
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will become again this year the starting point of the transoceanic regatta ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers), which will celebrate its 27th anniversary in 2012 as one of the most renown international nautical events. More than 200 boats from 25 countries began to arrive at the City Marina to cast off next 35th November heading to the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia, an Atlantic crossing of 2700 nautical miles being a reference in the world sailing agenda.
Most of the sailors come from the UK, with around 80 vessels registered in the event, whereas there will also be a wide representation of boats coming from Germany, Italy, Norway, Holland or Russia. After the calculations made by the event organisers, the presence of the ARC in the island generates an income of around 2.3 million Euro, with an average of 167 daily Euros spent per participant.
The programme of activities because of this regatta started yesterday Monday the 5th of November with a Painting Contest for Children with a total of 180 children from many schools of the city, those children will have the opportunity to visit the facilities of the City Marina and to get to know the nautical sports after a series of briefings about lateen sailing, scuba diving and other water sports. For those interested to enter the world of scuba diving, they can enjoy a first dive until Friday the 9th between 16:00 and 18:30, thanks to Buceo Canarias. Besides, on Friday night at Lasal Terrace of the Marina, there will be a Sailors’ Party open to everyone who may like to enjoy the sailors’ ambiance that we will live that weekend at Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Another initiative of the Entrepreneur’s Association of the City Marina (Marina LPA) will be the Happy Hour throughout the whole month of November between 12:00 and 13:00, and the new proposal the Marine Brochette, an appetiser of octopus, calamari, tuna, shrimps and sea bass at a price of 2 euro (drink included) every weekend of November.
Lateen Sailing Open Day
On Sunday the 18th, a week before the departure of the ARC, we will celebrate the opening ceremony and the flags rising ceremony, a colourful event followed by almost all the crews. The very same day, everyone who comes to the Marina will be able to enjoy an Open Doors Day at the Canary Lateen Sailing Federation with an exhibition of boats, first sails and a show of traditional handicrafts.
