El concejal de Turismo del Ayuntamiento de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Pablo Barbero, y la concejal del Distrito Centro, María Amador, han presentado el martes 19 de noviembre, el Punto de Información Turística del Parque de San Telmo, que ha reabierto sus puertas tras una rehabilitación que comenzó el pasado mes de octubre. Las obras de acondicionamiento y mejora de este inmueble han permitido introducir las tecnologías de vanguardia en este servicio turístico de la ciudad, para mejorar la experiencia del visitante.
La reapertura de este punto de atención se integra en la estrategia del Consistorio municipal de adaptar el servicio de información turística a las nuevas herramientas de la comunicación. Su revitalización ha contado con el compromiso de proteger el patrimonio de este histórico inmueble, y a la vez, adaptarlo a las necesidades de un destino turístico urbano innovador.
Pablo Barbero explicó que se trata de una intervención “necesaria, ya que el Parque de San Telmo es una las puertas de entrada a la ciudad para los turistas que llegan del sur de Gran Canaria y del aeropuerto. También es la antesala del barrio de Triana y de toda su oferta cultural, restauradora y comercial”.
Se trata de un equipamiento de información adaptado a los requisitos que exige el Plan Nacional de Integral de Turismo, para las oficinas de turismo del siglo XXI. En este sentido, el punto de información del Parque de San Telmo cuenta con un dispositivo móvil, Ipad, con conexión 3G; datafono e impresora para facilitar el acceso y la compras de excursiones, tickets de la Guagua Turística, LPA Card, visitas guiadas, etc. Otra de las novedades que hace este equipamiento sostenible es la iluminación exterior, regulada por un temporizador.
Inmueble histórico
El Punto de Información Turística está ubicado en el Quiosco de Prensa, junto a la Ermita de San Telmo. Este inmueble fue proyectado por Eduardo Laforet y construido en 1927, está catalogado dentro del Patrimonio Municipal como Monumento Histórico Artístico. De planta poligonal tiene la fachada acotada por un pórtico de columnas clásicas, con arcos en gablete gótico.
Las obras de reforma exterior han consistido en la reparación y pintura de la fachada; las ventanas; la eliminación de las filtraciones de la cúpula y la adecuación de la iluminación exterior para lograr un menor consumo; la instalación de portacarteles y placas identificativas e informativas.
En el interior se ha sustituido el mobiliario por mueble más adecuado a las necesidades de los informadores turísticos, a las nuevas herramientas tecnológicas y a la exposición del material promocional y publicitario. Entre las mejoras se ha instalado en el interior una tarima de madera, sobre el suelo, para el mejor mantenimiento y durabilidad del PIT.
Nueva Oficina de Turismo en Las Casas Consistoriales
Barbero ha adelantado que la ciudad contará con una nueva oficina de Información Turística antes de que finalice 2013, que estará ubicada en las Casas Consistoriales, que completará la actual red de Puntos de Información turística de la capital.
La Concejalía de Turismo cuenta en la actualidad con una oficina de Atención al Turista en la Casa del Turismo, del Parque Santa Catalina; y cuatro Puntos de Información, localizados en la Plaza de Canarias, para atender a los pasajeros de los cruceros; en la Plaza Hurtado de Mendoza y en el Paseo de Las Canteras, además del Punto de Información del Parque de San Telmo. Los informadores turísticos han atendido desde el pasado enero a 45.700 visitantes.

City Councillor of Tourism of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Pablo Barbero, and City Councillor of Central District, María Amador, presented on Tuesday the 19th of November the renewed Tourist Information Office at Parque de San Telmo after a refurbishing that started last October. The improving works carried on this building have enabled to introduce new technology in this tourist service of the city to make the visitors’ experience better.
The reopening of this office is integrated in the City Council’s strategy to adapt the tourist information service to the new communication tools. Its refurbishing was commited to protect the heritage of this historic building and, at the same time, to adapt it to the needs of an ever innovating tourist urban destination.
Pablo Barbero explained that this intervention was “much needed since the Parque de San Telmo is one of the gateways to the city for tourists who arrive from the south of the island and from the airport. It is also the entrance to the borough of Triana and to all its culture, gastronomy and shopping offer.”
The renewal adapts to the requirements of information tools required by the National Integral Plan for Tourism for tourist offices of the 21st Century. In this regard, the PIT of San Telmo square has an iPad Tablet with 3G connection and a credi-card-terminal to ease the access and purchase of excursions, Tourist Bus tickets, LPA Card, guided visits, etc. Another novelty of this building is the sustainable equipment thanks to the outside lighting, whith is time-regulated.
Historic building
The Tourist Information Office is located at the former Press Kiosk, next to the Hermitage of San Telmo. This building was projected by Eduardo Laforet and built in 1927, is catalogued in the Municipal Heritage as an Artistic Historic Monument. It has an octagonal plan and a façade enclosed by a portico of classical columns with arches in gothic gable.
The outer refurbishing works consisted of repairing and painting the façade and windows; removing the filtering from the dome and adjusting the outer lighting to save energy; installing poster hangers and identification and informative panels and plaques.
In the interior, the furniture has been replaced by a new one which is better looking and information oriented. It suits the needs of the tourist informers and to the new technology tools, as well as to the exhibition of promotional and commercial material. A wooden floor has been installed to enhance the durability and maintenance of the PIT.
New Tourist Office at the Town Hall
Barbero came early with the information about the new tourist information office the capital city will have at the Town Hall before the end of 2013, to complete the network of Tourist Information Offices of the city.
The City Council of Tourism currently counts with an office of Attention to Tourists at the House of Tourism, in Parque Santa Catalina, and four Tourists Information Offices located at Plaza de Canarias, to help cruise-ship passengers; at Hurtado de Mendoza Square and at the Promenade of Las Canteras Beach and the new of Parque San Telmo. Tourist informers have helped 45.700 visitors since January 2013.
