In previous editions, the International Bach Festival took place in Holland and Gran Canaria. The main event of the last edition was a dramatized version of the Passion according to St. John. In addition to the celebration of the great programming during Easter, it was closured with a special concert of “Jazzing Bach”.
The 2017 programme included, apart from the concerts in Amsterdam and its surroundings, a concert on the island of La Palma and seven concerts in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (the main event of this year’s Festival will be a dramatized version of the St Matthew passion). As novelty it includes a school concert, a competition for young interpreters and two concerts with the creation of the young Orchestra IBF, one of which is held in the South of the island, in the municipality of San Bartolomé of Tirajana.
We highlight that the holding of most the concerts are set in an ideal space, as it is the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, one of the most beautiful concert halls of Europe. The closing ceremony will be held in the emblematic Pérez Galdós Theatre.
During the Festival, young talented musicians will be invited to work and share the stage with professionals of international relevance of both orchestras and soloists invited for the occasion. Lectures and special presentations will be held to raise awareness to students and the public in general the masterpieces of Bach.
