The Alfredo Kraus Auditorium and Congress Hall of the Canaries presides over Las Canteras Beach, facing the ocean, next to the sand. Since its opening in 1997, its name is linked to the unforgettable tenor born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Architect Óscar Tusquets idealised it as a big fortress and sculptor Juan Bordes created a powerful sculptural set inspired on Las Canteras Beach as a “symbolic theatre of the sea”.
The Symphonic and Chamber Halls of the Auditorium are the common scenarios for the best international music, both classical and modern. At the beginning of the year, it is the home of the Canary Islands Music Festival. Along with this event, it has its own agenda and also programs from other institutions such as the Philharmonic Orchestra of Gran Canaria, the Philharmonic Society of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, jazz, singer-songwriter music, etc.
