Tourists can visit Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in taxi thanks to an agreement of collaboration between the City Council and the Autonomous Taxi Workers Association (ATAT). By it, two guided rides through the main tourist interesting areas of the capital have been established. Taxi drivers therefore become “tourist agents” and will offer transfer services at a fixed price per travel (not per passenger) for cruise passengers who may like to discover the city in a few hours and to use their time in a better way before embarking again.
The first rides, called Downtown Ride includes a depart from the Port of la Luz, a visit to El Confital, La Luz Castle, Port Market, Alfredo Kraus Auditorium and Las Canteras Beach, Altavista Viewpoint, Pueblo Canario, Néstor Museum and Santa Catalina Hotel, the boroughs of Triana and Vegueta and the fishing borough of San Cristóbal; a journey of some 35 kilometres and a fixed price of 70€.
The second rides is called Natural Ride and apart from the journey through the city (described in the Downtown Ride) also includes a visit to Bandama Crater and the Viera y Clavijo Botanic Gardens, known as “Canary Garden”. The journey is around 67 kilometres long and has a fixed price of 90€.
Information leaflets will be given to tourists, with each ride detailed and explained in English and Spanish which will be useful as complementary information of the route they are doing in the taxis. The leaflet also displays a map with the journey and the key visit points, pictures of these places and useful information like information telephone, opening times and location of the Tourist Information Points of the City.
Besides, the leaflets include rides outside the city and around Gran Canaria. The North Ride: Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Arucas, Santa María de Guía, Galdar, and Agaete (95€). The North-Centre Ride: Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Arucas, Teror, and Valleseco (90€). The Centre Ride: Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Tafira, Santa Brígida, San Mateo, Tejeda, and Artenara (110€). The South Ride 1: Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, San Agustín, Playa del Inglés, Maspalomas, Puerto Rico, and Mogán (160€) and The South Ride 2: Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Ingenio, Agüimes, Guayadeque Ravine and the Petroglyphs of Balos (110€).
