El concejal de Turismo del Ayuntamiento de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Pablo Barbero, ha asistido hoy jueves 21 de febrero en el Palacio de Congresos de Canarias - Auditorio Alfredo Kraus, a la inauguración del ‘26 Congreso Nacional de la Federación Española de Empresas de Organización Profesional de Congresos’ (OPC España)que se celebrará desde hoy jueves 21 y hasta el sábado 23 de febrero y en el que participan más de un centenar de expertos que han elegido la capital grancanaria para analizar y debatir el presente y futuro del sector.
El concejal explicó que se trata del considerado “congreso de los congresos” y añadió que es “una oportunidad excelente para promocionarnos como ciudad de reuniones entre los profesionales que pueden contratar el destino LPGC para la celebración de estos eventos”.
En este sentido, el Ayuntamiento aprovechará la presencia de estos profesionales para mostrar el destino y los servicios e infraestructuras que ofrece la Ciudad, con visitas guiadas al casco histórico, con el objeto de mantener el liderazgo de la capital grancanaria en el Archipiélago como uno de los destinos preferidos por el sector.
Barbero recordó que los congresos tienen una incidencia muy alta en la oferta turística, en la red hotelera, de restauración, comercial y cultural, así como en las empresas proveedoras de servicios de traducción, azafatas, sonido o iluminación, y destacó, el gasto medio diario por turista de congresos es de 148,16 euros.
Uno de los asuntos que se debatirán en este encuentro profesional es la necesidad de contar con una red de transporte convenientemente estructurada, que permita a la Ciudad afianzarse como destino de congresos.
Acciones de promoción
Entre las acciones que está desarrollando el Consistorio Capitalino para impulsar la ciudad como destino de congresos, se encuentra la firma de un convenio de colaboración con el Palacio de Congresos Auditorio Alfredo Kraus, que permitirá atraer la celebración de encuentros profesionales en la ciudad bajo la marca ‘LPA Meeting’.
El acuerdo entre estas dos instituciones tiene una vigencia de tres años y contempla subvenciones a aquellas sociedades científicas y profesionales, nacionales e internacionales, que tengan previsto celebrar reuniones de trabajo, encuentros y convenciones en el Palacio de Congresos de Canarias, entre 2013 y 2015.
City Councillor of Tourism of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Pablo Barbero, has attended today, Thursday the 21st of February, the Alfredo Kraus Congress Hall of the Canaries to the opening of the 26th National Congress of the Spanish Federation of Professional Congress Organising Enterprises (OPC Spain) that will take place from today until Saturday the 23rd of February with more than a hundred experts that hose the Capital City of Gran Canaria to assess and discuss about the present and future of the sector.
The City Councillor explained that this is considered as “congress of congresses” and added that this is “an excellent opportunity to promote the city as a congress city among professionals that can contract the destination Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to celebrate these events”.
In this regard, the City Council will take advantage of the presence of these professionals to show the destination, services and facilities this city offers, including guided visits to the Old Town, to keep the leadership of the Grancanarian capital as one of the preferred destinations of the Canaries by this sector.
Mr. Barbero reminded that congresses have a high incidence on the tourist offer, on the hotel, restaurant, commercial, and cultural networks, as well as the supplying enterprises of translation, hostess, sound and lighting, and highlighted that the average daily spend by congress tourists is around 148.16€.
One of the subjects to be discusses in this professional meeting is the need to have a network of transport conveniently structured, allowing the city to strengthen as congress destination.
Promotion actions
Among the actions carried by the City Council to strengthen the city as a congress destination is the signing of a collaboration agreement with the Alfredo Kraus Congress Hall that will lead to attract the celebration of professional meetings in the city under the brand “LPA Meeting”
Such agreement between these two institutions will be valid for a period of three years, and includes a series of grants to those professional and scientific, national and international societies, that chose the congress Hall of the Canaries to celebrate meetings, workshops, conventions, and congresses between 2013 and 2015.
